Notice how horribly retarded and decrepit flying units look, move and feel compared to Supreme Commander 2 in every way imaginable.
And this sh*it outsold Supreme Commander 2 and it was even a PC exclusive, it makes me so angry!
It basically looks like a fu*cking browser flash game!
Do you think that GPG made a huge mistake by not making Supreme Commander 2 also PC exclusive so it would have had more resources to polish it or just have more money to spend it on marketing?|||I dunno, I think StarCraft 2 looks pretty decent, and that mode looks like fun. DotA/Demigod with battleships. I'd play that.
If you're expecting winged aircraft and a flight model and banking an all of that, you're just watching/playing the wrong game. But if you seriously think Supcom2 has more overall graphical polish than StarCraft 2, you're about as wrong as the people who think FA has more graphical polish than SC2. All three are nice looking games with different advantages, but you can't argue against the obviously insane amount of care, work, money, money, and money that went into StarCraft 2's engine and art direction. It doesn't make any daring design choices, but it's pretty damn tight.
Also, your reasoning that dropping console support from SC2 would have saved money is highly suspect, if not completely wrong. Considering how few differences there are between the 1.0 PC version and the 360 version, supporting/developing the console version just meant creating a different UI for gamepad use, and doing some extra QA work (which is done by SE, not GPG). That's not exactly going to balloon the budget.
Releasing the game on another platform with minor modifications is obviously something that the publisher is not only going to push for, but happily fund, because they know they'll make back their comparatively tiny investment.|||Not you again.
Mike|||Mithy|||nifty sucks the wang.|||Sorry brah, but StarCraft 2's lighting model is much better than SupCom2's (note the precise flashes of light on the ships when nearby drones fire or lasers hit), the unit meshes and textures are more detailed and clearly had more time spent on refining and polishing them, and the effects shaders are a lot more complex.
SupCom2 is a nice game, but it was developed in about a year, so of course it's not perfectly polished. StarCraft 2 was developed over, what, like 6+ years? I'm sure none of the content is that old, but combined with lower unit count, insane Blizzard budgets and all the time in the world, of course it's going to have nicer looking maps and units. That's not a criticism of SupCom2, which looks great, especially considering the short development cycle, but it is reality.
Again, the fact that you don't like the flight model doesn't mean it's worse. SupCom's flying units are passable for its gameplay, but a fast, small-scale RTS needs a tight, responsive flight model, not some swooping, banking garbage that gets your units killed because they can't sit still (still one of the things that bothers me most about FA and SC2 - fix the damn air unit AI already so they don't constantly make unpreventable overflies of concentrated AA defenses).|||Mithy: why are you replying to threads/post from Zol/Nifty?|||I have no idea who that is. It seems like just another whine thread to me, which are usually worth a post or two if I'm bored.|||Mithy|||For the record, i think hes right about how the Starcraft aircraft look when they fly, but that was never the point.
gameplay > realism
Im not really sure it would be good for professional play if you couldn't control your air for 1/2 the time.|||I consider Mithy's argument about how much money blizzard spent on the starcraft 2 engine and art as stand up comedy.... Obviously the supcom2 engine is way better. You try and field a thousand units and structures in a game of starcraft. Doesnt work so great, does it?|||Mithy, how did you miss his like 500 threads on pretty much the exact same thing? >_>
Spooky|||OrangeKnight|||Epiphenomenon|||Whereas you can be instantly identified as a wanker, even from thousands of miles away!|||pkc|||Epiphenomenon|||ARMYguy|||I'll be honest - I agree with Zol here. At least with his argument about Sup2 versus Star2. I don't agree with him resorting to insults.
Still, I think the this is rather apt.|||Zol|||ARMYguy|||You know what's brilliant about this thread? Everyone's so convinced Zol is nifty, and he has such a reputation that everyone instantly attacks his position even when it's one we mostly support anyway, so he gets to be incite a war by being on the defensive which mods can't really do anything about.|||spuddyt|||I feel like i've just failed to understand an obvious joke cerus.
SupCom isn't.
