Is this game Newbie friendly online?

Hey everyone,
I'm an RTS player for many years, all the way from CnC to Red Alert, AoE, WiC, CoH, DoW1, DoW2, StarCraft2, you get the point.
I recently purchased SupCom2, and started playing it, single player. It has a lot of game mechanics that are different from other games in the genre. My question is, how's the community online, concerning new players to the game? Is there even a point going online once I'm finished with the campaign, or I'll get slapped?
Thanks for any assistance given.|||Everybody gets slapped when they first go online. If you can deal with it and learn, you'll have fun. If you can't, you'll quit.
In general, though, the learning curve is probably similar to or easier than most of the other RTS you've played.|||Thank you for your reply.
I'm ready to be slapped, just wouldn't like to browse games that are like: "No n00bs allowed" or something.
What I should've asked is: Is the community mature? No "Booyaka, ACU rush" 13 years old kids?|||I would say we have a lot of noobs here, so don't worry.
Experienced players, if you ask nicely, might want to give you a lot of tips what to do and what not. Also, watch a lot of replays. :)
Have fun, hope seeing you on the battlefield soon. ^^|||UnrealEnvy|||So far, you guys seem to be really awsome - helpful, and I'm glad I picked the game up. I firmly believe a big part of the game's enjoyment is the community. Not just the quality of the game.
I guess I'll see you guyn pretty soon on the battlefield. Oh and.. do take iot easy on me, aight? ;)|||UnrealEnvy|||Add some of us on Steam and play with us. That's a really good way to get used to the game and not have to worry about idiots/noob bashers. :)|||There are some people who are a bit rude with newbies, but overall, I think that the game community is rather kind and forgiving to newcomers. It is the people who have been playing for 200+ hours and still ACU rush or other cheesy strategies that get labeled noob. If you are looking for a great community that would be more than willing to play with you and give you excellent pointers in the right direction, check out gamereplays.org. The community there is awesome and will quickly answer any questions you have. Also, that website houses the replays that you can download and watch (and learn from). Hope this is helpful|||Like all communities there are dickbags around, so don't be put off if you run into someone who calls you a noob (Most commonly these are the worst players on their team, looking for excuses). And there is no shame in asking for advice after a game from anyone who simply outplayed you|||There're lots of cool players playing this game online. And, how not, there're some few fat barrels of arrogance as well as noobie abusers as well as in every online community you can participate of. But I'm sure on that you'll have mostly a big time playing this game. So gl and hf dude!. ;)|||The learning curve is pretty shallow and the skillcap relatively low. You'll get the hang of things pretty quickly and there's a tonne of community-created guides and help to teach you what you can't learn yourself.|||As far as most of the community I've run into (and that's most of them, since I am a 'Day 0' player), it seems to be mostly: 'You get what you give'.
If you are their eager to learn, ask smart questions and act mature, the community for the most part will be helpful and mature back. If you choose to be a dick about stuff and would rather make accusations of cheating, make fun of newbs or be a general nuisance, don't expect to make alot of friends, and don't expect help.
You seem to be one of the mature ones though, so welcome to the community!|||Z32|||splattedone|||Well.. +1 to hotho11owpoint and to Splattedone as well, IMO.|||Put simply, Supreme Commander 2 is a easy game to get into, but a hard game to master.|||It's easy to get the general idea, which means you win most games. But then there are people that are just better for no apparent reason. It's hard to describe, but as I was mentoring Vax it just came apparent to me that I just come off better than him in battles without really knowing how. It's just knowledge of the game and instincts after hours of playing it.|||splattedone|||My experience is, I win with my team mate 9 out of 10 games.
9 easy games and suddenly good opponents...which totally surprise us, with being good. So we lose in the end being all sloppy. ^^|||I like losing against good opponents. The best games I played were all hour long slug fests with me ending up losing to a clever and well executed counter.
Usually the things that kill me most of the time is being forced to play some rediculous game with X, Y, Z disabled or enabled which seriously breaks the balance in favor of X faction on X map, because I have no other choice as all 10 games up are exactly like this.
Usually these end up with me getting steamrolled by a UEF player who has mastered the art of AC1k spam on maps like Corvanna or Setons, and me being unable to do any feasable counter to stop this as Cybran air sucks and even mass adaptors can't stop a UEF AC1k spammer hiding behind the walls of his teammates with nukes, arty, navy, etc disabled.|||Oh well,
actually I avoid those games at all costs...never were fun nor is it the real game how it is supposed to be played.
I host my own then and wait...wait...wait. ^^|||There is some elitism in supcom2, like most rts really... But most people are pretty friendly.
Rumour has it that Gamereplays.org will be re-opening their supcom2 mentoring program in the new year as well, so it'll be worth keeping an eye out for that as an opportunity to get trained by some of the top players.|||Yes, finding a mentor is amazingly beneficial. I wouldn't mind mentoring, but my SC2 skills have been sliding a bit as I've been playing more BFBC2.
When you first get into multiplayer, there will be stuff that you have never seen or know the counter to if all you've been playing so far is the AI. Just don't let that stuff depress you and think SC2 is a one-dimensional game. It's really not, and the people that just do one thing over and over again will never get better at this game. You sound pretty cool and so this probably isn't new to you.
