But clearly this isnt used to create most of the geometry of the new maps. Weather things are built using geometry that can be scratch built in the editor, like brushes from Radiant / Unreal Engine:

or weather everything is pre-rendered in 3dsmax or whatever and then imported I dont know. Perhaps the latter explination is why they cant release an editor..?|||Seriously, if GPG made maps, the community will get there eventually too.|||HallowedError|||ShamusZ3R0|||sc1 didnt have a map tool on release, someone figured it out though and in a months time made a custom map for sc1. Then gas powered got around to putting out the official map editor.
Give it time, it will come, one way or another.|||Seeing that Demigod never had a map editor nor new map this long after release, the chance that SC2 will get them is very slim.|||Im not sure an official map editor will be released, but I do think custom map support will come.
I'm assuming GPGs new Kings and Castles game is going to use much of the same stuff from SC2.
Ill also assume GPG understands the importance of mods and maps for a games longevity.
While both mod and map support may not have been ready for SC2, while making Kings and Castles, they should create both and they should also be able to hand them over to SC2.
I doubt we will see a complete map designer from GPG. If I make an image using Photoshop, I can't give you photoshop with my image. If I make an image using an in-house designed photo program, then sure I can give you that program with my image, unless of course i don't want my competitors having it. Similar thing with the SC2 maps.
I would like to see support for the old SC:FA style of maps to be used in SC2, and some map editor released that allows us to add in the new features(pathfinding, etc). Or at least something to play with the current maps, like fixing the AI markers in them.|||DeadMG|||If the problem for GPG is to release a 3d editor, there are free packages on the market especially for that, like XSI mod tools. Like the name says, it's a free version of XSI for modding :)
