I'll try keep this as short as possible, but I'm having some problems with SC2 I recently purchased from Steam. Ok.. So SC1 worked fine on my comp, so i'v brought SC2, now when first playing i noticed something was wrong..

The buildings and units are not loading when clicking on them and moving them onto the screen to place on the ground, When they appear you only see their health bars..Odd..
So I downloaded all the latest drivers ect, Direct X ect, and everything, And im still having the same problem. So I played around the the settings abit.
And discovered playing the game in windows mode works fine! no problems what so ever! units show straight away and everything.

This is really annoying as playing in windowed mode is ok, but you have to use the arrow keys to scroll and its not fun, cant key bind units very well ect.

Can anyone offer some advice on this? Seems my system can run the game as it works 100% ok in windowed mode, but full-screen its impossible to play can't see any units ect.
Many thanks in advance,
Alex|||It's the single-core CPU.
SC2 uses external threads with lower priority to load resources in the background. If your CPU only has one core, this thread's low priority causes the background loading to go very slowly.
There's no known solution, although it does help to stay zoomed in on a particular unit for a slightly longer period of time. It can be a bit frustrating at the start of the game, when you can't always get build previews (including the footprint box) until the structure's content loads, but eventually you kind of get used to it.
I have the same CPU and thus the same problem, and I tend to use a lot of move order -> queue structure, then shift-drag the structure box to reposition it before the unit reaches the end of the move order. It just takes a bit of getting used to.
Edit: Huh, I never noticed that it isn't there in windowed mode. I guess you could try lowering the game's priority after launch, or using a shortcut to launch the game it with Normal or Low priority instead of whatever the default is (probably High), but like in windowed mode, you'd get overall reduced performance if you have anything else running in the background.|||Thank you for taking the time to reply really do appreciate it :) And also explaining it a little for me is very nice of you, as i understand the problem more now so its less frustrating :) Your right too the units do load eventually but its a slow process.
Yeah windowed mode is not the best way to play system performance wise i suppose, But at least its playable.
So your saying Launch the game Full-screen, then lower the games priority? how would i do this?
Many thanks again
Alex|||In XP, you can just hit CTRL+SHIFT+ESC or CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up Task Manager, go to the processes tab and find SupremeCommander2.exe, right-click, and lower the priority by one or two levels.
This may not have the same effect as windowed mode depending on whether or not the thread used for background loading is part of the SupremeCommander2.exe process itself. If it is, this probably won't work, and the windowed mode priority change has more to do with rendering itself getting a lower priority than the sim and the game's other background threads.|||yes the same happens on the 360 version as well, but only with the foot print boxes as mithy mentioned.(the green boxes).
Don't know why the 360 cpu even has this problem, seeing as how its a custom built Ibm power pc with 3 multi threaded cores running @ 3.2 Ghz.
Guess it wasn't optimized correctly.
What about a intel P4 running @ 3.06 ghz? it also has hyper threading abilities. would that be better than the AMD?|||To answer that last question: no. The P4 series processors had architectural flaws that allowed much lower-clocked AMD parts to beat their hyper-threaded ones. And the hyperthreading isn't the good version that is present on the i7 series either.|||Oh, okay. well why would the 360 have these issues then? the 360 cpu is more powerful then the amd and p4, probably put together.
I know its not even worth going against an i7.
