[:1]Weedoboths have a bomb upgrade called Scorch Bomb.
Scorch Bomb is a Damage over Time (DoT) weapon that increases the overall damage and AOE of Aeon Weedoboth fighter/bombers. However, this damage is not all delivered right away. It is delivered over time.
Adapters shields are very small. They only have 140 health and they can't stand up to the attack of a single loyalist for more than a couple seconds. However, when Weebs bomb them they do not do 375 damage on impact. They do 25 damage every .1 second until the first shield is down. This means that if 5 bombs impact the shield close to simultaneously you can expect to lose approximately 5x375dps to the shields with only 15% bleeding through to the next shield down.
5x375 = 1875damage
That means one Adapter can out perform a single P-Shield by 3.
If you know how Adapter shields can be stacked and ignored AOE then you realize just how good this is.
Mega-Melta-Bombs also have this effective reduction in benefits when hitting Adapter shields.
A similar effect takes place when a Cybran Commander upgraded to have nanogun engages enemies defended by Adapters.
These findings indicate that should you face adapters, you may not want to upgrade your weapon systems. You may be a more successful commander.|||Adapters can smoke bombers period. On top of the insane damage mitigation, the adapter shields come up before the bombers can come around and drop another bomb (usually).
So if you don't have enough bombers to bust through the adapter layered shields AND kill at least some adapters with leftover damage, you are royally screwed as those shields will be back up by the time you make another pass, all while they are murdering you out of the sky.|||So scorch bomb is actually a downgrade against adaptors?|||There is no such thing as downgrading in supcom2. Only bad investments. Upgrading splash vs adaptors is a nobrain bad investment. Its like spamming point defense vs a TML rusher.|||yeah, the scorch still does the same (actually more, IIRC) direct-hit damage, it's just that it also has damage over time that doesn't really accomplish anything, so it's a bit of a waste.
However, the scorch can continue to burn away at freshly recharged shields, and in some cases you can actually down a couple shields with just the DoT before your bombers come around for another pass.
But generally speaking, throwing bombers at adapters is just a stupid idea, unless you've got an insane number and intend to snipe a target underneath, in which case there's no reason to not have scorch (especially if that target is an ACU)|||dawumyster|||Z32|||Bastilean
